Amsterdam

Amsterdam smells!!! :-P Blæh!!
(I won't say more, but it's got to do with drugs - it's in the air everywhere!!)

Being in Leiden it was only 1/2 hour with the train to get to Amsterdam. As I've never been there before, last Sunday I figured I might as well go see the city. I met up with a friend of mine from Bonn who was there for the weekend (funny how you must leave your country to meet up with friends living next to you, huh?!), and we decided to go to the Museum of bags and purses! It was awsome!! Lots of old, nice, weird, cute, designer, knitted, embroidered, etc, etc handbags! Afterwards we really felt the urge to get some new handbags, but (un)fortunately the prices in the gift shop wasn't too appealing and we quickly got put off buying anything..

My friend left early to go back to Bonn, so I met up with another friend from Leiden and the rest of the day we went to see Anne Franks house. That was truly amazing! It's incredible how large that house was inside, and you really have no idea looking at it from the outside. I can't believe so many people lived there for so long without ever going outside. It made me wanna see the movie again, haven't seen it since I was a kid.

In between museums we went to cafes (not to be confused with coffee shops), I think I had about 5 cups of capuccino that day :-)) , and also wandered around looking at different parts of the city until my lungs were screaming for some fresh air and we got on the next train back to Leiden.

Amsterdam is truly a weird place. A bit like a country of its own. So many different people and cultures, sooo many turists and backpackers, and all that it has to offer pushed onto you without offering any escape. It was fun having been there once, but I don't have the big urge to ever go back. I know for sure that I will never ever want to live there.
